Thunderstorm threat looms over Punjab-Kolkata IPL 7 final

After 47 days of grueling and competitive cricket, the two teams left standing - Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab - will battle it out in the grand finale of the seventh edition of Indian Premier League to lay their hands on the coveted IPL Trophy and for the winner's purse.

But hold on as there is more than a hint of a thunderstorm invading the city of Bangalore and the Chinnaswamy Stadium even before the Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders can spark fireworks in the IPL final which is going to start in a few hours time from now.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium may witness thunderstorms intervening even as the players get going at the appointed time of 8 pm, according to Met department. The India Meteorological Department has traced a weather-generating trough of low of pressure passing over Karnataka replete with opposing winds running into each other and setting off atmospheric instability.

In the event if it is not possible to schedule a 5-over match to complete by the end of the extra time on the reserve day, the teams will play a Super Over to determine the winner of that match, if the conditions permit. The pitch and ground must be ready for play so that the Super Over can start at the latest by 1.10am on the relevant day. If it is not possible to play the Super Over, the team that finished highest in the league table after the 56 matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner.
